In the 21st and 22nd centuries, biotech and nanotech come together to provide humans with a new experience of embodiment. With the addition of control over the flow of time, a technology called tempo, humanity begins its exodus from Sol System towards other planets and stars, eventually occupying a vast swathe across three spiral arms called the Humanitat.
Within this future history, we explore the lives of select individuals. Binox Runstable, a young boy with a rare genetic disease called gigantism, will follow in his father’s footsteps to become a policeman ensuring political stability for over a thousand years.
A woman with bipolar disorder will lead the development of a star-spanning governance structure which combines mysticism, oracle and gaming. An Hindu scholar and a Buddhist radical will, together, unite all religions within a common understanding of the Divine.
These developments, and others, lead humans, and their alien cousins, towards a confrontation when one man’s vision for a radical future collides with the dreams and aspirations of the collective. The result will determine not just what it means to be human (or alien), but also how humans will interact with the sacred in our encounter with Destiny.
